Cowes - is probably the most famous of all leisure ports and is always buzzing with yachts and motor boats of all shapes and sizes. The town offers a good choice of up-market restaurants and traditional pubs. This is the centre of the yachting world and is always a hive of activity with a long seafaring past, from the Royal regattas of the 30’s to the hi-tech inter ocean racing of the present day.
Just a few miles east is Osborne Bay, overlooked by Osborne House the favourite residence of Queen Victoria and the house she retired to after the death of her beloved Albert.
A number of variations of this trip are possible, such as dropping anchor in Osborne Bay for afternoon Tea or stopping off at Gunwharf Quays for a spot of retail therapy.
Beaulieu - the Beaulieu River runs up into the New Forest and is hailed as the most beautiful harbour in the Solent. At Gins Farm oak woods close in, from which Nelson's navy was built, many at the upstream village of Buckler's Hard. A wholly natural beauty spot unspoilt by careful custody of its owner, Lord Montagu. The Yachtsman Bar can be seen to the left of the photo.
